How to Thrust Faster Without Finishing in 40 Seconds

Every guy has tried it. You speed up, it feels incredible, and about forty seconds later you're apologizing.

The instinct is to blame fitness or stamina. We'd blame tension. When you go faster you hold your breath, clench everything from your jaw to your glutes, and basically send your body a memo that says "finish now."

Fast thrusting you can actually sustain is a skill, and like most skills it's built from the boring parts: hips, breath and rhythm. Here's how we'd train it.

Why speed gets you in trouble

When you speed up, you tend to hold your breath, clench your glutes and tighten your pelvic floor. Those are the same muscles that contract during ejaculation, so tensing them tells your body the finish line is close. Add stronger friction and you have a recipe for a short session.

Fix the mechanics first

  • Move from the hips, not the lower back. Think of tilting your pelvis forward and back while your upper body stays quiet.

  • Keep your glutes and abs engaged but not locked. If your buttocks are rock hard, you are working too much.

  • Support your weight. Use your knees, forearms or the edge of the bed so your hips are free to move.

  • Shorten the stroke. Fast and shallow is easier to sustain than fast and deep, and it is less stimulating for you.

Our guide to thrusting techniques and hip control breaks down the basic movement patterns if you want to start from zero.

Breathe like you're jogging, not like you're defusing a bomb

Slow nasal breathing is fine at a slow pace. At speed, switch to steady, rhythmic breaths through the mouth, as you would on an easy run. The rule is simple: never hold your breath. If you notice you stopped breathing, slow down for a few strokes and reset.

Use speed in intervals

Nobody keeps top speed for ten minutes, and your partner probably does not want that either. Work in waves:

  • 20 to 30 seconds fast and shallow.

  • 30 to 60 seconds slow and deep, or a pause with grinding instead of thrusting.

  • Repeat, and change position when you feel close.

Each slow phase lets your arousal drop a point or two, which is what allows the next fast one.

Positions that make fast thrusting easier

  • Standing at the edge of the bed: your legs do the work and your hips are free.

  • From behind, kneeling: good range of motion and easy to control depth.

  • Missionary with a pillow under their hips: a better angle with less effort from your lower back.

Three drills to build speed and control

  • Hip bridges and pelvic tilts: two sets of 15, three times a week, to build the endurance of the muscles that drive the movement.

  • Reverse Kegels: practice gently relaxing and lengthening the pelvic floor, the opposite of a clench. This is the skill that keeps you from tipping over at speed.

  • Edging at pace: during solo sessions, practice fast strokes while breathing steadily, stop at 7 out of 10 and let it drop. A stamina trainer makes this practice closer to the real thing.

Training wheels are allowed

A small dose of delay spray lowers sensitivity enough to practice speed without the pressure of finishing early. Use it as a training aid while you build control, not as the whole plan.

Also: ask them

Faster is not automatically better. Many people prefer steady rhythm and pressure over raw speed, and what feels great for a minute can be uncomfortable for five. Ask, watch their response and use lubricant generously when you pick up the pace.

The takeaway

Speed is a skill, not a personality trait. Loosen your hips, keep breathing, work in waves and practice control on your own time. The pace will come. More importantly, you'll still be in the game when it does.
